Zilda Eudora Patterson-Goldsmith was born on June 12, 1938 to Marion & Benjamin Davidson in St. Ann's, Jamaica, West Indies. She was the youngest of three children. In 1968 she immigrated to New Rochelle to foster a new and better life for her and her family.
Zilda worked hard to support her family as she earned her Associates degree from Elizabeth Seton College. While pursing her higher education she also worked many jobs ultimately reaching the field of communications working for the Bell Atlantic Company. She would later work for Verizon Communications as an accountant until her retirement in 2001.
Though Zilda left Jamaica, Jamaica was never far from her heart as evidenced by her fondness of telling stories of her childhood and travels there. A woman strong in her faith, Zilda enjoyed reading her bible which could always be found by her bedside. You could always hear her humming hymns as she went about her day. Sewing, cooking, and the company of others were a few of her favorite pastimes. Zilda also enjoyed listening to music, dancing, attending parties, and was never one to hold back a good joke, or a bad one. But most of all she enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren.
She passed in the care of her loved ones early on April 16, 2016. She is predeceased by her loving husband, Oswald Goldsmith and her daughter Pauline Patterson. Zilda will be missed by her other four children, Sonia Patterson, Dexter Patterson, Beverly Patterson-Phillips and Dante Goldsmith. She also leaves her five grandchildren; Briant, Chelia, Shakira, Danielle, and Andrew. Lastly she leaves three precious great grandchildren Quadir, Nyele, Maliah and countless other friends, family, and loved ones.
