Vitold Jankowski of Mount Vernon passed away on January 12th 2015. He was 93 years old. He was born in Janowczyna Poland to John and Evelyn Jankowski, and in 1927 immigrated to the United States on the SS Latvia. Vitold first settled in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. He went to John Adams High School and later graduated from Columbia University (Class of 1943) His MD qualification would later take him to Japan as an occupational forces physician, where he met and married his wife Miyuki. After returning from Japan in 1951, Vitold lived in many cities in the US before finally settling in NY. It was shortly after that Vitold set up his practice in Queens Village & New Hyde Park. After retiring in 1986, Vitold rediscovered his love for painting and letter writing. He will be remembered as a smart, loyal person who was dedicated to medicine. Vitold will be missed by his children; Richard & his wife Jarmila of Midland MI:, John & his wife Bree of Staten Island & Evelyn & her husband Kurt Riedel of Pelham. Sadly missed by 7 grandchildren and 3 great grand children. A Celebration of Vitolds's life will be held at the Pelham Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Avenue from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, January 16th. There will be a Service on Saturday, January 17th at 10:00 AM at the Pelham Funeral Home followed by a Christian burial at St Mary's Cemetery in Queens.
