Pelham

Veronica Delores Kearns (nee Tulick) Pelham, NY – Veronica Delores Kearns of Pelham, New York, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2025, just a few months shy of her 102nd birthday. Born on Orchard Street in Yonkers, New York, to Stanley and Anna Tulick, she was the oldest of two children. The family later moved to the Bronx, where Veronica attended St. Adalbert Elementary School and graduated from Morris High School.

Veronica had a passion for writing from a young age. She pursued correspondence courses and eventually wrote articles for the Polish American World newspaper, where her work was widely appreciated by the community.

On November 14, 1953, Veronica married George Leonard Kearns in New Rochelle, New York. They shared nearly 47 years of marriage, during which they traveled extensively throughout the Northeast, selling Polish imports. Veronica’s adventurous spirit and entrepreneurial drive were a cornerstone of their shared life.

In addition to her family and business ventures, Veronica was deeply involved in local politics. She served as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention and was always passionate about her civic duties and the causes she believed in.

Veronica’s career included several notable positions, but her favorite was her final role as a sales clerk at the Bloomingdale’s outlet in New Rochelle, where she developed lasting friendships and enjoyed her interactions with customers. Earlier in her life, she worked at Vanderbilt Publishing and as a hostess at a catering hall in New Rochelle.

Those who knew Veronica will remember her sharp wit, strong convictions, and her unwavering support for her friends. She had an iron will and a heart of gold, always willing to lend a helping hand when it was needed most.

Veronica is survived by her niece, Veronica (Robert) Orosz; her grand-niece, Nora-Grayce Orosz; her cousin, Geri Piotrkowski, her devoted caregiver of 23 years, Alicja Kotek; and her dear friend, Janine Rose. She will also be dearly missed by her extended family, caregivers, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Veronica was predeceased by her beloved husband, George; her parents, Stanley and Anna Tulick; and her brother, Henry Tulick.

A celebration of Veronica’s life will be held at Pelham Funeral Home, located at 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, New York, on Monday, February 3rd, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Catharine’s Church, located at 25 Second Avenue, Pelham, New York, on Tuesday, February 4th, at 10:00 AM.
