Stephen Gopaul, fondly known as Pint, died peacefully on July 13th, 2018 in New Rochelle, New York at the age of 67. He was surrounded by family and friends. Stephen was born on January 26th, 1951 in Trinidad and Tobago to Sooknanan and Jaudanie Gopaul. He was a primary school teacher for 23 years in Trinidad and Tobago. He was known as a strict teacher, but one who genuinely cared about his students and worked tirelessly to help them succeed.
He married the love of his life, Allyson Labbon, on April 5th, 1979. They were happily married for 39 years and have five children. Stephen moved his family to Mount Vernon, New York in 1990 in order to provide better opportunities for his children. He worked at Franciscan Mission Associates in Mount Vernon for 20 years. There, he was known as a hard worker who always went above and beyond.
Stephen was loved and respected in his community. He drove his children, along with their friends, to school every morning. He was a caring dad who was involved in all aspects of his children's lives. Stephen loved watching soccer, hanging out (liming) at the beaches and rivers in Trinidad, cooking (especially curry duck), and reminiscing with old friends. He always had a smile on his face and a kind word for everyone he met.
He is predeceased by his father and his brother, Ramchand Gopaul. He is survived by his wife Allyson Gopaul, his five children Rhea, Shelly, Rolland, Stefanie and Stefan, and his grandchildren Olivia, Maya, Chloe, Aiyanna, and Isaiah. He is also survived by his siblings, sisters-in-law, and sons-in-law. While Stephen's journey on earth has ended, his spirit and his legacy lives on in the hearts of his children, his family, his friends, and in all of the people whose lives he touched. Although we will miss him greatly, we are eternally grateful for the memories and the time we had with him.
