Sally Cho of Roslyn, New York, passed away on May 27th, 2023. She was 79 years old. Born in Seoul, South Korea, Sally was the youngest of seven children. Sally was raised in Seoul with her family before moving to Indiana at the age of 16 to attend University. She graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Elementary Education from Indiana University.
Sally moved from Indiana to Delaware, where she would meet her husband, Hong Cho. They met through friends. Sally and Hong would marry in New York City in 1969 and live in Queens where they raised their two children, Sarah and Stanley. When the children were little, Sally earned her Masters degree at Hunter College. She was passionate about children and loved to teach English to Korean children like herself. She taught in NYC public schools for 35 years.
Sally also loved Art. When her recently retired husband Hong passed with lung cancer in 2001, she would take art classes at the Roslyn School of Art. She enjoyed painting and pottery. Sally also took piano lessons which helped her grieve. After surviving the devastating loss of her husband, she turned around and created a new life with new interests. Her devotion to her grandchildren and her hobbies gave her a new lease in life.
In 2011 Sally retired from teaching and was struck with the same misfortunate as her husband: she too was diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer. After battling with chemotherapy for 3 months she miraculously got connected with an experimental trial for a new drug in Massachusetts General Hospital. After twelve months on the trial, Sally’s tumors went into complete remission. Once again Sally turned lemons in lemonade.
Sally lived a spectacular life. She will be remembered as a kind, generous, and hard working person. Nothing brought her more joy than children. She also loved spending time with her family and her friends. She would go out of her way to help anyone, especially a friend in need. Sally loved spending time with her late husband and missed him dearly.
Sally is survived by her children, Sarah Kim and Stan Cho, and her three grandchildren, Thomas, Jason and Benjamin. Sally will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.
A celebration of Sally’s life will take place at the Pelham Funeral Home located at 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, New York on Saturday June 10th from 2-6 PM. For more information or to leave a condolence please visit
