Roy Allen Arns Sr., a lifelong resident of the Bronx, passed away on February 1, 2025, at the age of 93. He was born in the Bronx to Louis and Regina Arns and was their only child. Roy grew up in the Bronx, attending PS 97 and Evander Childs High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he proudly served during the Korean War.
Following his military service, Roy returned to the Bronx and began his career as a truck driver. He remained close to his childhood friends and, with his entrepreneurial spirit, saw an opportunity to open George’s True Value Hardware Store. The store, located at Westchester Avenue and Castle Hill Avenue, became a cornerstone of his life. Roy could often be found working there seven days a week, devoted to the business he loved.
In addition to his work at the store, Roy had a passion for renovating houses and enjoyed spending his free time outdoors. On Thursdays, he would often go fishing, and after retiring, he spent his weekends at his home in Montauk. He also cherished Sunday dinners with his family, always making time to connect with his loved ones.
Roy will be remembered for his kind, generous, and hardworking nature. He was a beloved figure to all who knew him, always eager to bring joy to those around him. His selflessness and unwavering support for his family made him a true hero in their eyes. Roy never hesitated to lend a hand or offer a helping word—he simply said “yes” whenever someone was in need.
Roy is survived by his children, Linda Cavallo and Glen Arns; his grandchildren, Christy Cavallo-Joy, Jaclyn Cavallo, Peter Cavallo Jr., Jonathon Arns, and five great-grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Roy is predeceased by his son Roy Jr.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Roys's name, St Judes, and Tunnel to Towers.
