Rose L. Violenzo Miller, a resident of Pelham since 1924, died on January 19, 2017. She was 94 years old. Mrs. Miller was born on April 10, 1922 in New Rochelle, NY to the late Donato and Louise (Oprandy) Violenzo. Rose was raised and educated in Pelham and graduated from Pelham Memorial High School and The Packard School in New York City, a Jr. College. On October 5, 1947 she married Donald H. Miller at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Chapel in Pelham Manor, NY. Rose was an Audio-Visual Coordinator at Pelham Memorial High School. She enjoyed each day working with the students and her "family" of co-workers in a happy environment. In her personal life, her former students and their families referred to her as "Aunt Rose". Rose was always a concerned and active volunteer. She was an active PTA member, a President of St. Catharine's School, the Ladies Guild, The CYO, and in many capacities at St. Catharine's Church, her beloved parish. She was also a member of Post Roads Girl Scouts Council and the Pelham Women's Republic Club. Finally, she was a President of the Pelham Senior Citizens and a founding member of the Pelham Women's Club.
Rose is survived by her two daughters: Donna Miller-Bailey of Bologna, Italy and Dr. Louise Miller of Jefferson Valley, NY. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Amaranta (Amy) Tarabella and Rachel Rossi, as well as her five nieces: Elizabeth Card Oberley, Martha Card Lavender, Laura Violenzo Green, Melissa Violenzo Oaks, and Dawn Violenzo Cody. Rose is predeceased by her husband of 43 years and her brother, Donald Violenzo.
Visiting hours will be at Pelham Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, NY on Thursday, January 26 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Catholic Burial will be held at St. Catherine's Church, 25 Second Avenue, Pelham, NY at 10:00 AM on Friday, January 27. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rose's memory to St. Catharine's Church, Pelham, NY.
