Rose Joann Galdo of Mount Vernon passed away on Saturday, October 1st, 2016. She was 91 years old. Born in Mt. Vernon, New York to Alfonso and Antoinette Galdo. She was one of nine children. Rose attended the AB Davis High School in Mt Vernon and upon graduation she embarked on the working world taking on some interesting jobs before she settled on her career with the United States Post Office. She would hold a position with the Post Office until her retirement in the 1980s.
An independent and industrious person, Rose would take time away from work to enjoy traveling. She traveled the world but some of her greatest memories were close to home with family and at her Connecticut summer home with her nieces.
She loved sports and supported her Local NY teams including the Yankees, Giants and Rangers. Rose herself was an excellent athlete and played a lot of sports, especially softball.
A devout Catholic, Rose was a member of Sacred Heart Parish her whole life. Living her faith with a generous nature, Rose volunteered at Rosary Hill Hospital for many years. She was the "Angel" of her family and loved and cared for them all, including her dogs who she held in a special place in her heart.
Rose is survived by her brother Raymond , sisters Antoinette, Mary, and Agnes; and many nieces and nephews.
She is pre-deceased by her brother Alfonso, her sisters Josephine, Helen, and Anna.
A celebration of Rose's life will be held on Tuesday, October 4th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Pelham Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Ave., Pelham, New York. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Catherine's Church, 25 Second Ave, Pelham, NY, on Wednesday October 5th at 10:00 AM.
