Rose Corrado, of Pelham, NY and Palm Beach Gardens, FL passed away on Sunday, March 5th. She was 103 years old. Born to Vincenzo and Marie nee Russo Capone in Mt Vernon, NY, Rose was one of eight children. Her childhood was full of life and love and it was when she was just 7 years old that she would meet Anthony Corrado, another neighborhood kid, who would one day become her husband. Rose's giving and loving nature was fostered by her faithful upbringing. She attended St. Frances of Assisi Church and worked as a seamstress. In 1933 Rose married that neighborhood boy and together the two would raise two children and become grand-parents and great grand-parents of 7.
Rose and Anthony moved to Pelham and became part to the Church of St. Catharine's Community. In Pelham they found a home and community to which they also gave much back. Rose was a devout parishioner of St. Catharine's and a faithful member of both the Pelham Senior Citizen's Club and the Civics Association. Rose continued doing seamstress work until her retirement in 1974. Rose and Anthony remained a faithful couple for 67 years until his passing in 2000. Since 2000 Rose has spent a few months each year with her daughter in Palm Beach Gardens, FL and attended St. Ignatius of Loyola Cathedral in FL.
Rose is predeceased by her beloved husband Anthony as well as grandson, Paul Corrado. She is survived by her 2 loving children: Fred Corrado and Antonia Sclafani both of Palm Beach Gardens, FL. She will be lovingly remembered by her surviving grand-children, David Corrado of Monroe, NY and Christopher Corrado (Jennifer) of Cortlandt Manor, NY and her four great-grandchildren: Catherine Corrado of Greenville, SC, Samantha Corrado of Atlanta, GA and Matthew and Benjamin Corrado of Cortlandt Manor, NY. Rose also leaves behind a legacy of loving nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Rose's life will be held at Pelham Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Ave., Pelham, NY on Wednesday, March 8th From 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Catharine's Church, 25 Second Ave. Pelham, NY on Thursday, March 9th at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow the Mass at Beechwood Cemetery in New Rochelle.
The family requests contributions in lieu of flowers be made in Rose's name to a charity of your choice or any of the following charities: The Trust Bridge Hospice, Palm Beach Gardens, FL; The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, WA; The Ballenisles Charities Foundation in Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
