Rosaria Iadavaia (known as Sadie and Sally to family and friends) of Bronxville, New York, passed away on March 1, 2023, exactly five months to the day of celebrating her 100th birthday.
She and her identical twin sister, Marie, were born October 1, 1922, in Brooklyn, NY, to Nicholas and Angela D’Angelo. With the birth of their younger sister, Gloria, six years later, the family moved to the Bronx. Sally attended Evander Childs High School and graduated from The College of Mount Saint Vincent, Riverdale, New York, in 1945 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. While in college, she met her future husband, Vincent Iadavaia, whom she married in 1946.
Sally worked as a chemist at The Sunshine Biscuit Company. However, as her family began to grow with the birth of her first two children, Marie Grace and Angela, she started a new career as a teacher when they began school. As Vincent pursued his career as a sanitary environmental engineer, she also completed studies in education at Hunter College and the College of New Rochelle.
Soon after the birth of Elizabeth, the family moved to Bronxville, New York where she lived for the rest of her life. Sally, a woman ahead of her time, enjoyed balancing work and family, community life, and a strong social network among new and old friends and neighbors.
She taught at Colonial and Hutchinson Elementary Schools in Pelham, New York. She was a parishioner of St. Catharine’s Roman Catholic Church, and a member of the Pelham Country Club and The Manor Club. She volunteered at the Sound Shore Hospital. She enjoyed playing golf, going bowling, entertaining and playing bridge.
Sally will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She will be dearly missed. Her loved ones find comfort in the many treasured memories she leaves behind.
Sally is survived by her children, Marie Grace Iadavaia, Angela Iadavaia-Cox and Elizabeth Iadavaia; her grandchildren, Paul Cox (Renata Paolercio) and Ariana Accardi (Bobby); five, soon to be six, great grandchildren: Olivia, Paolo and Stella Cox; and Alessia, Savannah and Baby Accardi; her sister, Gloria Ingrao, numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her husband, Vincent, and sister, Marie Leff.
