Ronald Oravec Sr. of Pelham NY passed away on March 1st 2020. He was 78 years old. Born in Lambert Pennsylvania to Victor and Bertha Oravec Ron was one of 6 children. He attended Germantown High School before enlisting in the US Marines. Ron was a proud Marine. He served in the Cuban Missile Crisis and briefly in Vietnam before being honorably discharged as a Lance Corporal.
After returning from Vietnam Ron got a job with 7up as a night loader. He lived in Pelham at the time with his best friend Bill O Hara. Bill was instrumental in setting Ron up with his wife Pamela. They met on a blind date in Mount Vernon in 1964 and would later marry in May of 1965.
Ronald continued working as a night packer before eventually getting promoted to vending Mechanic. He worked for 28 years with 7up which later got acquired by Pepsi.
In his spare time Ronald loved to spend time in the outdoors. He loved deer hunting, fishing, camping, country music and spending time with his friends. Ron also volunteered with the Pelham Volunteer Fire Company and the Auxiliary Police Department. He enjoyed bowling and reading.
Ronald will be remembered as a funny, strong and headstrong gentleman. He loved his friends and always put family first. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Pamela, his children, Ronald Jr (Juliana) and Richie (Yolanda Mirella). He is also survived by his granddaughter Christina Oravec. Christina was his pride and joy.
A celebration of Ronald's life will take place at the Pelham Funeral Home located at 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham NY on Thursday March 5th from 4-8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Catharines Church located at 25 Second Avenue Pelham NY on Friday March 6th at 10:00 am. Interment will be follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
