Rocco Darmiento of The Bronx passed away on Saturday, November 10th, 2018. He was 75 years old. Rocco was born in The Bronx to Rocco and Cristina Darmiento. He was raised with his five siblings on Hughes Avenue where he attended PS 45 and Theodore Roosevelt High School.
Upon graduating from high school, Rocco would begin working at R. Hoe & Company. He enlisted in the Army reserves during the Vietnam conflict. In 1973, Rocco began his career at the NYC Department of Sanitation. He started off his career as a sanitation worker before becoming District Superintendent and later retiring in the year 2000 as Assistant Borough Superintendent. He retired at 57.
Rocco enjoyed his retirement immensely. He loved traveling, especially by car. He would often take trips to Florida and Pennsylvania. He also enjoyed cutting the lawn and doing yard work. He enjoyed watching classic movies from the 30s, 40s, and 50s, collecting classic toy trains, and rooting for the Yankees and the Giants. Rocco recently celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary with his wife Marie and two sons Anthony and Nick.
Rocco will be remembered as a truthful and kind family man and a hard worker. He was always there to help a friend in need and he always thought about others before himself. He adored his family, especially his grandson John.
Rocco is survived by his wife Marie, his sons Anthony and Nick, his grandson John, his sister-in-law Pat, and his nieces and nephews. He will be missed by everyone he knew.
A celebration of Rocco's life will take place at the Pelham Funeral Home, located at 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, NY, on Thursday, November 15th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and also on Friday, November 16th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, located at 575 Fowler Avenue, Pelham Manor, NY, on Saturday, November 17th at 10:00 AM.
