Robert Materasso of the Bronx, NY passed away Monday, October 24th. He was 90 years old. "Bobby" was born in the Bronx to Francesca and Carmine Materasso on January 3, 1926. Bobby was the youngest of six siblings. Michael, Mary, Anne, Millie, and Louis Materasso.
Bobby was a traditional Italian boy who made lifelong friends in his Bronx neighborhood. The most precious of these friendships was with his wife, Theresa Salvati. They fell in love and would be married for over 65 years. He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Theresa. He will be greatly missed by his many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Over the course of his life, Bobby would serve in the Navy during WWII as a tail gunner. He also worked for his family-owned construction company along side his brothers and his father. Bobby had a very successful career as a Deputy Chief Inspector for the NYFD until he retired.
Bowling was his passion and in 1984 Bobby was inducted into the Pro-bowler Hall of Fame. Through his bowling, Bobby was privileged to mentor many young people and help shape their lives. He owned a pro-shop in Mamaroneck and could always be found playing the game, or in more recent years, mentoring others in Westchester and the Bronx. His eclectic career offered him the opportunity to meet many people and create lifelong friendships.
A strong, confident, and generous man, Bobby lived life on his terms. He loved spending time with his family and friends.
A celebration of Robert's life will be held on Thursday, October 27th from 4:00 to 9:00 PM at Pelham Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 28th at 10:00 AM at The Church of St. Catharine, 25 Second Avenue, Pelham, NY.
