Robert R. Farewell December 8, 1932 - August 29, 2014
Robert Farewell, 81, of Pelham, passed away on Aug. 29 after a brief illness. Bob was the youngest child of Thomas and Ada Farewell. He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Jr.
Bob grew up in Mount Vernon, N.Y., and attended the city's public schools, where he met his future wife of 54 years, Gilda Nordone. Bob and Gilda were married in 1954. They lived most of their lives in Pelham, N.Y., where they raised three daughters. Gilda passed away in 2008.
In the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1954, Bob served on the attack cargo ship, U.S.S. Vermilion. The ship supported troops through ports across the northern hemisphere. After his service, he began a career with Consolidated Edison as a land surveyor in Westchester County, N.Y. He retired as a manager of construction at Con Ed in 1997.
Bob was a generous and gentle soul to family and friends, and will always be remembered for his sense of humor and passion for classic cars. He received countless trophies for cars at shows throughout New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and other states.
Earlier in 2014 Bob married Rosary Forlani, of Eastchester, who survives him. He is also survived by his sister, Mary (Betty) Anderson of Eastchester, and his children, Jill and husband Tom Stanton; Robin Farewell and husband Joseph Homola; Kelly Farewell and husband Joseph Delli Carpini, and grandchildren: Kyle Stanton, Robert John Homola, and Jessica and Jason Delli Carpini.
The celebration of Bob's life will be held at Pelham Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, on Monday, Sept. 1 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Saint Catharine's Church, 25 Second Avenue, Pelham, at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's memory to the Melanoma Research Foundation (www.melanoma.org.).
