Philomena Dougherty (nee Cafferty) 90 of Mount Dora, Florida passed away
peacefully in her sleep on Monday April 17, 2023.
Philomena was born on May 13, 1932 in Kilclare, County Leitrim, Ireland and, at
the age of 17, she was the first of her siblings to emigrate to the U.S. She studied to become a hair stylist and worked at the salon at Sak’s Fifth Avenue. She married her husband, David Dougherty, on February 8, 1964 and retired from Saks just prior to the birth of their first daughter. She and her husband owned their own business, Tom-Ron Delicatessen and Catering in Bronx, NY for many years. Philomena also worked as a clerk at the Fine Jewelry counter at Macy’s in Parkchester, NY.
She enjoyed shopping, reading, dancing with her husband, wine, Cheese Doodles and spending time with her family and friends. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren and said many Novenas to St. Jude on their behalf.
Philomena is survived by her daughters, Patricia Fricker and Loretta Gallo and her four grandchildren and one “adopted grandchild” Dave Fricker, Shannon Fricker, Joshua Gallo, Hannah Gallo and Kenneth Fricker along with other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her siblings, her husband David and her son Daniel.
There will be a Memorial Service held at Pelham Funeral Home at 64 Lincoln
Avenue Pelham, NY on Thursday May 4, 2023 from 4-8pm. Funeral Mass to be
held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help at 559 Pelham Manor Road, Pelham, NY on
Friday May 5, 2023 at 10 am. There will be an internment of ashes at Gate of
Heaven Cemetery after the mass, followed by a luncheon at Pelham Country Club at 940 Wynnewood Road Pelham Manor, NY 10803.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude's in Philomena's name.
