It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Osarogie Usiomwanta, commonly referred to by his baptized name of Peter. Affectionately known by many as the "Mayor" of our community. He passed away peacefully on October 9th in his home in the Bronx at at the age of 63.

Osarogie was born on April 25th 1961 in Edo State, Nigeria to Gabriel and Florence Usiomwanta. The oldest of 7 children. He would later meet his wife Ohonmi Paulette Usiomwanta. After several dates later, the couple would marry and move in together to their home in the Bronx where they raised their children. After spending much of his adolescence in Nigeria, he immigrated to New York City, a city that he would grow to love and continue living in for the remainder of his life. A true ode to his love for New York City, he went on to attend the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) and go on to work as a Lead Abatement Supervisor for the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), where he dedicated many years of his life ensuring the safety and well-being of countless residents all over New York City. His work left a lasting impact on the community he cared so deeply about as well as brightening the days of his coworkers who would continually go to him for advice or even a laugh.

Known for his charisma, charm and sense of humor, Osarogie earned the nickname "Mayor" because of his deep involvement and connection to everyone in the neighborhood. Whether it was lending a helping hand, offering advice, or just being a friendly face, he touched the lives of many with his generous spirit.

Osarogie was a devoted husband , and is survived by his loving wife Ohonmi Usiomwanta children Peter, Chelsea and Emmanuel Usiomwanta all of whom will carry his memory in their hearts.

In his free time, you could find Osarogie driving around his 2003 blue Toyota 4runner, watching the New York Knicks on his big brown leather couch  or the New York Yankees with his children. Osarogie was also an active member of Friends Club USA where he attended multiple meetings, organized summer picnics and engaged in fruitful conversations.
