Nina Pistone of Pelham passed away peacefully on Friday, January 27. She was 91 years old. Nina was born in New York City to Anthony and Germana "Jennie" Taranto. Nina was raised in the Bronx and graduated from Jane Addams High School. In the same year she graduated, Nina met her husband of 47 years, Pat Pistone, whom she married in 1944. Nina and Pat worked at the Tuxedo Hair Salon in the Bronx, which they established together.
Nina was a devout Catholic and attended Mass at St. Catharine's daily. The St. Catharine's community was very dear to her. She connected with everyone she met and was always the last to leave church. Nina was known for her cooking, which always brought joy to her and her family. She will be remembered as a loyal, faithful, generous, dedicated woman who loved helping others.
She is survived by her children, Anthony (Lorie) Pistone and Lorraine (Stephen) Pompeo, her grandchildren, Elizabeth and Stephen, her great-grandson, William, her sister, Jean, and her brother, Robert.
A celebration of Nina's life will take place on Monday, January 30 at 9:30 a.m. at the Pelham Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Catharine's Church, Pelham. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
