Nigel David Mullahy, a New York resident who lived in many places, formerly of Bohola Co. Mayo, passed away on January 12th, 2021. He was 46 years old. Born in Castlebar Hospital, Co. Mayo to Thomas and Kathleen Mullahy, Nigel was one of seven children. He was raised in Bohola where he attended Bohola National School and St. Louis Convent in Kiltimagh. He quickly started training as a hair stylist and started his own hair studio in Swinford at 19 years of age. But Nigel had bigger and better dreams for his life. He moved to New York in 1994 and worked solidly in Manhattan for his entire career. A self-made success, Nigel was a genius at his craft and earned his reputation for being the absolute best at what he did. His hard work afforded him to live the kind of full life he wanted - one spent celebrating life with family and friends, traveling extensively, shopping, and spoiling his friends, family, and especially his nieces and nephews.
In his friends words "Nigel lived a sober life, pursued happiness in all he did, loved all those he knew and was an incredible friend. He was a rockstar hair stylist and was motivated to be the best of the best!"
Nigel will be remembered as a flamboyant, generous, sharp-witted man who wore his heart on his sleeve. He was brutally honest, told it like it is, and somehow did it in a way that was appreciated in the end. He was a true original and left an indelible impression on everyone he met. His absence will hurt, deeply, and he will be missed.
Nigel is survived by his parents Kathleen and Thomas Mullahy, brothers Garry, Denis, Tommy, Brendan, Darran and sister Linda, brother-in-law, sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, aunts, relatives neighbours, friends and his beloved dog, Buddha.
A celebration of Nigel's life will take place at the Pelham Funeral Home located at 64 Lincoln Ave in Pelham New York on Saturday January 16th from 4-7PM. Nigel will be repatriated home to Bohola on Monday January 18th 2021 where he will be laid to rest at Bohola Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Nigel's name to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust. For more information or to leave a condolence please visit pelhamfuneral.com.
