Monica Mary D'Angelo of Pelham, NY passed away peacefully on November 17, 2017. She was born in the Bronx on May 24, 1944, to Ellen (Hennessey) and Michael Palmentiero, who raised nine children. Monica Mary D'Angelo graduated from Monsignor Scanlan High School and Hunter College, and then later obtained her Master's Degree in education from the College of New Rochelle. Monica worked as a public school teacher in the New York City School District for almost 20 years. In May of 1973, she married her husband Michael T. D'Angelo, settling in Rockland County before moving to Pelham in 1980. She later became an academic advisor and adjunct instructor at Iona College for more than 15 years. After retiring from her career at Iona College, she became a devoted grandmother to Matthew and Leo. Monica loved her home, knitting, crocheting, collecting books and enjoyed listening to music. She was loving, intelligent, independent, nurturing and hardworking. Loving mother of Michael and John D'Angelo, and mother-in-law of Maryann D'Angelo. Wonderful grandmother to Matthew and Leo. Monica Mary D'Angelo is survived by many siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A celebration of Monica Mary D'Angelo's life will take place at Pelham Funeral Home located at 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham on Monday, November 20th from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral mass will take place at St. Catharine's Church on Tuesday, November 21st at 10:00 AM. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery located at 10 W Stevens Avenue, Hawthorne. Contributions in her memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
