Maura H. O' Sullivan of Pelham Manor, formally of Co. Carlow Ireland, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on November 3rd, 2017. She was 92 years old. Maura was born in Leighlinbridge on October 18, 1925 to James and Margaret Harkin. She attended local schools in Ireland before studying to be a maternity nurse in Temple Hill, Blackrock, Co. Dublin. Upon graduation, Maura came to the United States in 1946 with her sister Agnes on the SS Washington. She would meet her Uncle Bernie in NY and travel to Boston where she would work as an au pair for a prominent family in Marblehead, Massachusetts.
In 1949 Maura returned to New York where she would meet her late husband Denis O' Sullivan at a game in Gaelic Park. They would later marry in St Helena's Church in the Bronx. Together they raised their children in the Bronx before moving to Pelham Manor in 1980. Maura worked as a registered nurse for the United States Postal Service.
Maura will be remembered as an independent and determined lady. She was family oriented and generous. She instilled a life long value of education as well as a passion for reading. One of her proudest moments was when she returned to college to become a registered nurse in 1977. Maura was a well read lady. She loved reading Irish history, The Wall Street Journal and local papers. If she was not reading a book she could be found watching PBS or the BBC. She loved to shop and travel back to her native land to spend time with her beloved sister Rita. Her love and character will serve as an example for her family forever.
She is survived by her Daughter Maureen O. McMahon (James) of Pelham Manor, her Son Denis J., (Marguerite) of Pelham Manor, Grandchildren; Sean and Colleen McMahon, Kristen, Stephen and Kaitlin O' Sullivan. Great Grandson; Colin Healey and her sister Breda Graef of San Francisco, CA. Maura is predeceased by her husband Denis, Her sisters Peg, Agnes, Rita and her brother James Harkin.
 A celebration of Maura's life will take place at the Pelham Funeral Home located at 64 Lincoln Avenue Pelham on Thursday, November 9th, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Pelham Manor on Friday November 10th at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
