Mattia Montanile of Yonkers, New York, passed away on June 26, 2023. He was 79 years old. Born in Sasso, Italy, to Domenico and Francesca Montanille, Mattia was the eldest of four children. He was raised in Brusciano, (Outside Naples, Italy), where he attended the local school until his 8th grade. While attending school, Mattia would help out at his dad's woodworking shop. At eighteen, Mattia would serve his native country before moving to the United States with his parents in 1967 to seek a better life for the Family.
Mattia was only in the United States for one week when he met his wife of 52 years, Carmelina Lacerra They met while taking English night classes at Evander Childs High School in the Bronx. It was love at first sight for Mattia. He pursued his future wife Carmelina for one year before she said agreed to date him. They would marry at St. Raymond's Church in the Bronx on May 22, 1971.
Mattia and Carmelina would be blessed with three children; Francesca, Tricia, and Domenick. They raised their children in Yonkers while Mattia worked for himself doing architectural woodwork for many high-end hotels and buildings in Manhattan. In his spare time, he loved to eat, drink and be merry, spend time with family and friends, and hunt in upstate New York.
Mattia will be remembered as a loyal, dedicated family man and friend. He was always jolly, fun-loving, and very welcoming. He was a true Neapolitan man and quick with a joke.
Mattia is survived by his wife of 52 years Carmelina, and his children, Francesca (Bruno) D'Ascanio, Tricia (Carl) Trotto, and Domenick Montanile. He will be deeply missed by his grandson Angelo Trotto. Mattia is also survived by his siblings Tina Napolitano, Frank Montanile, and Egidio Montanile. Mattia will be missed by his many nephews, nieces, and friends.
Mattia's life will be celebrated at the Pelham Funeral Home located at 64 Lincoln Ave, Pelham, New York, on Wednesday, June 28, between the hours of 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm. A Christian Burial Mass will occur at Annunciation Church located at 475 Westchester Ave, Yonkers, New York, on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at 10:00 am.
