Marty Rothe of Pelham Manor passed away on May 25th. He was 90 years old. Born in the Bronx, Marty grew up with a love for life, country and sports. At 17 years of age he joined the Navy and fought during World War II. When he returned from the war, Marty would complete a business degree at New York University and go on to play for the Philadelphia Phillies farm team. He also worked as a baseball scout before retuning to his hometown of The Bronx to work for the New York Yankees. Marty worked for the New York Yankees for 52 years. He never retired from his dream job and worked until the age of 89.
Although Marty loved what he did, he also loved the people in his life. He had a passion for travel. A true family man, Marty spent happy hours with his grandson Andre. He was a devoted community member always making time for friends and groups such as the Pelham Men's Club. However, sports, all sports, were never far from his heart. He was a true sports enthusiast.
Marty is survived by his wife Barbara, his stepson Ivan and wife Maria Jackson and step grandson, Andre Jackson, and his many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Marty's life will be held at Pelham Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Ave, Pelham, NY on Friday, May 27th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, May 28th, 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 559 Pelham Manor Road, Pelham Manor, NY.
