Mark Joseph Morrissey of Hawthorne, formally of Pelham, New York passed away on Sunday, December 31st 2017. He was 56 years old. Mark was born in Bronxville, New York to John and Patricia Morrissey. He was the youngest of 6 children. Born with cerebral palsy, Mark's physical limitations were clear â he never walked and he was never able to speak sentences, or feed himself. Those limitations did not stop him from giving and receiving great love. He had an incredible smile and laugh, and a gentle nature. He was resilient and appreciated the simple things in life. Mark was one of those rare people who made those around him better by inspiring empathy and compassion for others. He will be missed by his family and all those who knew him.
The family would like to thank the whole Pelham community for their support of Mark, especially during his early years when Pelham volunteers provided daily help with a form of physical therapy called "patterning." The family would also like to thank the staff at The Hawthorne House for their great care of Mark during his later years. He leaves behind his sisters Mary Pat and Cathy, his brothers; John, Tom, and his twin brother Mike.
There will be a private viewing for family only at the Pelham Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at the Holy Family Church 83 Clove road in New Rochelle on Wednesday January 3rd at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
