Maria Rosa De Chiaro

Maria Rosa De Chiaro of Pelham Manor NY and Ponza Italy passed away peacefully on Thursday July 29th 2016 with her family at her side. She was 101 years old. Maria was born in Ponza, Italy to Luigi and Filomena Aversano. It was there that she met and married her husband of 58 years Silverio De Chiaro. Together they raised 4 children before moving to New York on January 16th 1961. Maria continued to raise her four children in the South Bronx while her husband worked in Construction. However, her heart was still in Italy. Maria moved with her husband back to Ponza Italy in 1977 after he retired. She enjoyed spending time with family, home cooking, gardening and wine making. In September 2009, Maria moved back to New York to be with her children. Maria will be remembered always as a kind, loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She lived a long and decent life, taking care of her family and loving them unconditionally. As she often said, "Love each other because it does not cost anything".

Maria is survived by her daughters Giuditta Giampapa (Frank) and Lisa Cammarota (Joseph); her son John De Chiaro (Mary Beth). Her 7 grandchildren Gianfranco De Chiaro, Salvatore Ruotolo, Ronald Ruotolo, Benvenuto Ferron, Adele Dominicus, Michelle Smith & Elisa Feola, as well as her 14 great grand children. She is pre-deceased by her daughter Filomena Ferron and son-in-law, Filippo Ferron.

A celebration of Maria's life will be held at Pelham Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Ave, Pelham, NY on Sunday, July 31, from 2:00-9:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 559 Pelham Manor Road, Pelham Manor, NY at 10:00 am on Monday, August 1st.
