Maria Damiani

Maria R. Damiani of Bronx, NY passed away on Thursday, August 15th, 2019. She was 92 Years old.

Born in Potenza, Italy on September 4th 1926 to Franceso and Maria Carmela Rizzo, Maria was the youngest of fourteen children. She was raised in Italy where she graduated with a Bachelors degree. Maria would go on to teach in her local town until she one day traveled to New York on a vacation during the summer of 1962. It was on that vacation that Maria would meet the love of her life Frank Damiani. The couple married at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in January of 1963.

Frank and Maria lived in the Bronx where they raised their two children Anne-Marie and John. In her spare Maria would volunteer her time, at a local nursing home Having an ear for music, Maria would often play the piano for the seniors or sing, at the Italian mass, at her church parish. Maria also enjoyed listening to traditional Italian music. Maria was an excellent cook. She followed the Italian cooking traditions of her mom as well as taking care of her well manicured garden during the summer.

Some people will remember Maria as a tremendous match maker. Her extrovertedness and outgoing personality made it very easy for her to strike up conversation and bring people together. (We would like to mention that all of the matches that she made were successful.) Maria will also be remembered as a caring and loving person. She always put family first. She was a great entertainer and was committed to helping those around her.


Maria leaves behind her children Anne-Marie and John (Tita) Damiani as well as her two grandchildren Samantha and Maria. She is predeceased by her husband Frank. She will be missed by everyone she knew.
