Leon Thomas Young aka “Speedy” of Mount Vernon, New York, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2022. He was 48 years old. Born in New Rochelle, NY to Jacene Thomas, Leon was one of 5 children. Leon graduated from Blessed Sacrament Saint Gabriel High School. He later enrolled with the United States Military and served in the Army for four years. In the Army, Leon has earned the National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon.
Leon worked in the Publishing Department with the Army. He had a strong work ethic and loved his job. Leon also enjoyed playing baseball in Little League and Babe Ruth, basketball in high school and football with The Mount Vernon Razorbacks in his hometown, Mount Vernon, NY. Leon always made sure family came first and always enjoyed spending times surrounded by family and friends.
Leon will be remembered as a huge sports fan, along with a caring, loving and devoted brother, father, relative and wonderful friend. He will be dearly missed by all; however his family finds comfort in the many treasured memories he leaves behind.
Leon is survived by his father, Col. Eugene Young ,his sisters Jacene Thomas,
Melissa Thomas, Kenyetta Thomas, his brothers Steven Thomas, Richard Thomas, Clifford Mack, Jr., Adam Ellison, Henry George Thomas, Preston Thomas, his daughter Laura Arbet and many aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins.
A celebration of Leon Thomas Young life will take place at the Pelham Funeral Home located at 64 Lincoln Ave., Pelham NY on Monday, November 21, 2022, from 4pm to 7pm. A Military Service Burial will take place on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at Calverton National Cemetery, Wading River, NY at 1pm.
