Latchmin Ganpat "Rita", of Pelham Manor, peacefully passed away on January 31st, 2016. Latchmin was born in Georgetown, Guyana and was a loving daughter to James and Doreen Hing. She attended her local high school and was an expert seamstress. In 1968, Rita met the love of her life, Ken, and they married. At the age of 24 she and her husband came to America and settled in the Bronx. Shortly after having children they settled in Westchester, NY.
Rita loved her family and worked hard to bring many family members from Guyana to America so everyone could be together as one family.
Miss Rita will be remembered as a hard working, determined woman who loved spending time with her family. She spent many years as a seamstress working from the house while raising her 4 children. Rita was a familiar and popular face in the Pelham Community where many would often stop by Gristedes where she worked just to say hello. Rita loved spending time with children and spent over 30 years as a childcare provider. She was and is still greatly admired, appreciated, and loved by many.
Rita is survived by her husband of 48 years, Ken, her children, Morvin, Kelvin, Michelle and Christopher, Her daughter in laws, Amy Ganpat, wife of Kelvin, and Danielle Ganpat, wife of Christopher. Grandchildren Stephen, Kristina, Mackensee, Ciernan, Tyler, Taryn, Christopher Jr, and Jason.
Rita was her family matriarch, her 8 siblings all of her nieces and nephews, love her and will miss her dearly.
Her life will be honored and celebrated on Wednesday February 3, 2016 4-8pm, and on Thursday February 4, 2016 from 4-8pm at the Pelham Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Ave, Pelham, NY 10803.
