Joseph Arthur Ruf, 91, of New Rochelle, passed away on Dec. 17, 2013. Born Oct. 30, 1922 in Bronx, N.Y. to the late Joseph and Ernestine (Heydorn).
Joseph graduated from James Monroe H.S. in the Bronx. He then entered the U.S. Navy where he proudly served on the U.S.S. Belleau Wood in The Pacific Theater during WWII.
On June 22, 1946 he married Evelyn Hartmann at St. Peter's Church where they had met. They were truly devoted to each other until her death on Sept. 15, 1987.
Joseph was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in the Bronx where he served many years on the vestry. He was also a longtime member of the Pelham Masonic Lodge 712 on City Island.
Joseph was the owner of Joseph A. Ruf, Inc. Metal Fabricators in Greenwich Village, N.Y.
Joseph is survived by his daughter Barbara (Frederick) Paganico, grandchildren Lisa and Michael Alexander and Matthew Paganico and great grand-daughter, Elysiana Lowe as well as many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife, Evelyn and his daughter, Joan Ruf Alexander.
Joseph was a passionate animal lover so in lieu of flowers please make donations to the ASPCA.
A wake will be held at Pelham Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Ave., Pelham on Thurs. Dec. 19 from 2-5 and 7-9. A funeral mass will be held on Fri. Dec. 20 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 2500 Westchester Ave., Bronx, N.Y.
