Joseph Vincent Autorina died October 17, 2024 at home in Mount Vernon, NY. Born September 1, 1929 in New Rochelle NY, he was predeceased by his parents, Lena Idoni Autorina and Nicholas Autorina and his first wife Louise Cassara.
Joe attended Albert Leonard High School in New Rochelle and The Missouri School of Mines in Missoula. Upon graduation he served in The United States Air Force as a pilot and 1st Lieutenant in The Korean War. During his service, Joe survived a a catastrophic plane crash by walking away with minor injuries. Home from the war, Joe served in The Reserves and returned to New Rochelle where he worked for Gries Manufacturing as a part of the team that created the Hot Wheels toy car that exists today.
Joe and his wife Liz, (Mary Carlisto) Autorina spent many years in Naples Florida raising family and running several successful pool companies. Joe was a great storyteller, and had a story for any occasion. He was an expert craftsman, enjoyed woodworking, golf, fishing, a great meal, a nip of Jack Daniels and renovating his own homes as well as those of his children. If you needed a tool, no matter how obscure, Joe owned it.
He is survived by his wife, Liz (Mary Carlisto) Autorina, his children Robin (Frank) Antalek, Nick (Holly) Autorina and his beloved granddaughters, Hannah Antalek and Tessa Antalek. For Joe (Pops), Family was everything.
Graveside services At Beechwood Cemetery will be held on Friday October, 25, 2024 at 10:00 AM.
