Joseph Amico, a longtime resident of New Rochelle, passed away on Thursday, April 28, at the Bayberry Nursing home in New Rochelle. Joe was Born in 1925 in The Bronx to the late Salvatore and Anna Amico. His family later moved to Mamaroneck. He graduated from Mamaroneck High School in 1942 where he was elected to the National Honor Society. Joe served in the US navy during World War II as an Electronic Technician aboard the USS Bon Home Richard in the Pacific. He was 1,000 feet from the Battleship Missouri where the Peace Treaty ending the war was signed. Joe went on to graduate from New York University in 1948 with a BS in Electrical Engineering. He then worked for over 35 years as an Electrical Engineer and Senior Systems Analyst for the Otis Elevators Division of United Technologies. Joe was civic minded, serving on the New Rochelle Recreation Commission and serving as the Treasurer of the New Rochelle Republican Committee. He also served as President of the New Rochelle Republican Club. Joe was a communicant of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church in Scarsdale. Joe loved his family, vacationing in Southampton and was passionate about the New York Rangers and Yankees. He was also an avid bowler and in his retirement enjoyed ball room dancing.
Joe is survived by his Sons Andrew (Mary), Robert (Floria), Michael and Richard. He is also survived by his nieces Annette McCoy, Lorraine (Bud) Grace and their son Alan. He will also be missed by his grandson, Michael Richard Joseph Amico. Joe is predeceased by his his wife Janet (Petrillo) Amico, his parents Salvatore and Anna, his brother Vincent, and his nephew, David McCoy.

A celebration of Joseph's life will be held at Pelham Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Ave., Pelham, NY on Monday, May 2nd from 4:00PM to 8:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, May 3rd at 10:00AM at St. Pius X Church, Scarsdale, NY. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorn, NY. For more information or to write a condolence, please visit www.pelhamfuneral.com.
