John “Sean” Tierney of Fishkill, formerly of Yonkers, New York passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on September 28, 2021 after a long courageous battle with cancer. Sean was 80 years old. Sean was born in Shercock, Co. Cavan, Ireland to Terence and Mary Tierney, he was one of five children.
After coming over to the USA Sean met the love of his life, Janey Stack. They met at a Dance in Astoria and was married in November 1964 and were blessed with five children: David, Pauline, Diane, Kathleen, and Deirdre. Sean worked for the MaBSTOA for thirty years.
Sean had a passion for golfing, playing cards and an avid sports fan supporting his favorite NY teams - Mets, Jets and Rangers as well as GAA football. He enjoyed vacationing to Ireland and Florida. Sean will always be remembered as having a joke up his sleeve and a smile on his face. He enjoyed meeting people and having a chat. He was very charming, witty, and loving who enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Sean is survived by his wife of 57 years; Janey Tierney, his son; David Tierney, his daughters; Pauline (Tim) Mulcahy, Diane (Nicky) Potterton, Kathleen (Paul) Holze, Deirdre Tierney (Firth) and his beloved grandchildren; Sinéad, Paul, Nicholas, Jessica, Rachelle, Sean, Lauren, and Kieran. Sean will be missed by all who knew him. Sean is predeceased by his sister; Moira Tierney and his brother; Pat Tierney.
A celebration of Sean's life will take place at the Pelham Funeral Home located at 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, New York, on Sunday, October 3rd, from 1-6 pm. A mass of Christian burial will take place on Monday, October 4th, at St. Barnabas Catholic Church located at E 241st St, Bronx, New York, at 9:30 am.
