John Francis Rice

After a courageous battle against cancer John Francis Rice of Bronx, New York, formerly of the parish of Killannin, in Cloonmore, Rosscahill, Co Galway passed away on November 26th 2022. He was 36 years old. Born in Galway city to Richard and Anne Rice. John was the youngest of three children. He was raised on the family farm in Cloonmore, where he attended Collinamuck National School before graduating St. Paul Secondary School in Oughterard. John was an absolute sports fanatic. He would go out of his way to play any sport, whether is was football, hurling, soccer, tennis or golf. John was avid Liverpool fan and played Gaelic football for Collinamuck National School,  New Tullymuckers and Killannin GAA team. 

 

John attended FAS where he learned his trade as a carpenter. He would work all over Galway as a carpenter and in his spare time train for MMA. In October 2014 John would move to New York and live with his cousin Kevin. He worked as a carpenter by day and played Golf most weekends. In 2015 John would meet the love of his life Dolores. They met in Woodlawn while Dolores worked day shifts at a restaurant. John and Dolores loved to travel, play Jenga, footgolf and paint. John and Dolores would later marry and be blessed with a beautiful baby girl Sophia. 

 

John will be remembered as a family man who was hardworking, extremely generous, competitive and a true gentleman. Although he was sometimes stubborn he always made sure people felt welcome at his home and would go out of his way to help a friend in need. 

 

John is survived by his wife Dolores, his children Sophia and Adriel, His parents Richard and Anne Rice, His brothers; Peter and Richie (Yvonne) Rice, his nephew Nathan, his many Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, extended family and friends. John will be missed by everyone who knew him. 

 

A celebration for Johns life will take place at the Pelham Funeral Home located at 64 Lincoln avenue, Pelham New York on Wednesday November 30th from 4:00-8:00pm. A Funeral Mass will take place at St Barnabas Church located at 409 East 241st Street, Bronx, New York on Thursday December 1st 2022 at 9:30AM. John will be repatriated home to Cloonmore Co Galway where he will be laid rest in Killannin Parish Cemetery.
