John Henighan of Yonkers, New York formerly of Corbally, Co Galway passed away on September 10th 2021. He was 79 years old. Born in Corbally, to James and Ellen Henighan, John was one of 7 children. He was raised in Corbally where he attended school in Lackagh. John emigrated to America with his cousin Peter in 1961. It was in New York, that John would, meet his wife of 45 years, Margaret Butler. They would raise their two children Ellen and John in Yonkers.
John’s worked tirelessly and was always on call for his job, which he loved. In his spare time he loved to go for walks, travel to Ireland and most of all spend time with his family and friends.
John will be remembered as a true gentleman. He had a great sense of humor and was a wonderful story teller. He loved nothing more than to be surrounded by the people he loved and to make them laugh.
John is survived by his wife Margaret, his daughter Ellen, his son John, his daughter-in-law, Laura and his granddaughter Olive. He will be missed by his sisters; Bridie Kavanagh and Marie Naughton, his brothers; Martin, Michael and Brian. He is predeceased by his twin brother Paddy. John will be missed by everyone who knew him.
A celebration of Johns’ life will take place at the Pelham Funeral Home located at 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, New York on Tuesday September 14th from 4-8PM. A funeral mass will take place at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church located at 602 McLean Avenue, Yonkers, NY on Wednesday September 15th at 10:00am.
