Jeannette Macri

Jeannette D Macri of Pelham Manor, NY, passed away on July 13, 2022. She was 90 years old. Born in the Bronx, New York to Fred G Dress and Edna Mae Smith. Jeannette was the youngest of three children. She was raised in the Bronx where she attended PS 86 and would later graduate from Walton High School. After graduating from High School Jeannette would work as a dental assistant on Fordham Road in the Bronx. Her practice was the referral dentist for Fordham University students. In December 1950 Jeannette would meet the love of her life and future husband of 68 years Fortune S. Macri. Fortune asked her to lunch in December of 1950 and as they say the rest is history. The couple would marry at Our Lady of Angels Church, Bronx, NY in 1954 on the Vigil of the Feast of the Assumption, on August 14th. They were blessed with five children which they raised in the Kingsbridge area of the Bronx before moving to Pelham Manor in 1969.

 

Jeannette loved art and became a talented painter at The Pelham Art Center, where she also volunteered. She, also, donated her time to the Pelham Civic Association. She enjoyed taking her kids to their baseball, football and basketball games. Sunday dinner was a very important event for Jeannette. She loved to cook a typical Italian Sunday dinner and made sure her whole family attended, including her in laws. Jeannette had a tremendous green thumb and always maintained hundreds of house plants. She attended to her prize roses’s on Clay Avenue daily, when in season.

 

Jeannette will be remembered as a loving, caring and nurturing wife, mother and friend. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was well liked by everyone who knew her. She was known as the cool mom in the neighborhood, so much so, that the school kids loved to hang out at her house, after school. 

 

Jeannette is survived by her husband Commissioner Fortune S Macri, her children Duffy Macri, Fortune and his wife Jeanne Macri, Charles Macri, Gloria Macri and her spouse Lorraine Gatti and Anthony Macri. She will be missed by her three grand sons Fortune Macri III and his wife Lauren, Matthew Macri and his wife Maura and Robert Macri. She is predeceased by her parents, Fred and Edna Dress and her brother Fred Dress and sister Catherine Patterson.

 

A celebration of Jeannette’s life will take place at the Pelham Funeral Home located at 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, New York on Sunday July 17th from 2-6PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Our Lady of Perpetual help Church located at 575 Fowler Avenue, Pelham Manor, New York on Monday July 18th at 10am.
