Janet McMillan

August 10, 1959 — March 25, 2020

Janet McMillan of Bronx NY passed away in March 25th 2020. She was 60 years old. An immigrant from Dominican Republic, Janet was one of five children. She moved to New York with her family when she was a young girl. The family lived in Washington Heights.

Janet attended Boricua College because she had a passion for learning and helping people. At the age of 21 Janet would would enlist in the United States Army and proudly serve her country. She served for almost 40 years before retiring as Sergeant First Class. She traveled throughout the world helping and giving back to rural communities. She was a woman of God and established a Christian Ministry in Dominican Republic. She truly dedicated her life to serving others.

In her spare time, Janet loved to run, walk, dance and write poetry. She loved dancing Zumba with her daughters, reading the scriptures and helping those that needed help. Janet will be remembered as a smart, loving, funny, strong and active person. She liked to march to the beat of her own drum.


Janet is survived by her children Gabriela Suarez (Brandon Romeo-Diggs), Angelina Suarez-Popplewell (Terrance Popplewell), Maurice McMillan, Devin McMillan, Mia McMillan. She will be missed by her 3 grandchildren; Kenneth, Jacob and Justin as well as her three sisters; Dominga Amparo, Bebely and Ailyn. She is predeceased by her parents Gabriel and Ana Garcia and her sister Gabriela. She will be missed by her many cousin, nieces, nephews and everyone she knew.
