James Carmody of New York, NY passed away on Tuesday, November 9th, 2021. He was 87 years old. James was born in Kielbawn, Ballymacelligott Tralee, Co. Kerry, Ireland to James and Ellen (nee McCarthy) Carmody. James left school at an early age to take care of his four siblings and farm. He would dig trenches on the farm to drain the land.
James came to the United States in 1954 and was a very hard worker. He was a member of the Kerrymen’s P.& B. Association and carried the flag on St. Patrick’s Day for 32 years. James will be remembered as a kind man with strong Irish roots.
James is survived by his brother; Denis Carmody, his sisters; Nora (Doug) Fergusson and Bridget Carmody, and his niece; Karen Fergusson (Marty Marini). James is predeceased by his sister; Rita Carmody and niece; Kim Fergusson.
A celebration of James’s life will take place at the Pelham Funeral Home located at 64 Lincoln Ave., Pelham NY on Monday, November 15th from 4-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Barnabas Church located at 409 East 241 Street, Bronx, NY on Tuesday, November 16th at 9:30 am. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
