James Anthony Boccagna, a longtime resident of City Island, New York, passed away on February 1, 2025, at the age of 65. Born in Manhattan to Angelo and Elizabeth Boccagna, James was the oldest of two children. He was raised on City Island, where he attended St. Mary’s Grammar School and later graduated from Christopher Columbus High School in the Bronx. During his school years, James was active in little league sports and enjoyed bowling with his father.
After high school, James briefly worked alongside his father at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company before beginning a long and fulfilling career as a custodian with the NYC Public Schools system.
James loved the Yankees and traveling to Florida, where he enjoyed visiting friends. He was passionate about music, with Queen being his favorite band. Wherever he went, James could always be found with a radio in hand, listening to his beloved tunes.
While he was a quiet and reserved individual who often preferred solitude, James cherished his friendships and enjoyed spending time with his friends at Fella’s on City Island. His easy-going nature and love for his community made him a beloved figure to those who knew him.
James is survived by his mother, Elizabeth; his sister, Karen (Anthony) Valentino; his nephew, Anthony J. Valentino; and his niece, Amanda Valentino. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
