Jacqueline L. Grant of Mount Vernon, New York, passed away on January 5th, 2023. She was 93 years old. Born in West Virginia, to Robert Davidson & Regina Jacobs, Jacqueline was an only child. Jacqueline moved to Harlem, New York in the early thirties where she was raised by her mother, Regina, whom she called “Sister”.
Jacqueline graduated from Walton High School in Harlem then briefly attending a secretarial school. She worked many jobs but her most rewarding career was working for Hanover Manufacturers of New York. She started as a receptionist and worked her way up to a managerial position. She would retire at 65 years of age. She remained active after retirement as a cherished staff member of the Mt. Vernon Public Library.
During Jacqueline’s working career she would meet her husband of 45 years Jarvis “Jack” Grant. They met through a mutual friend and would marry in Harlem. Jacqueline and her husband moved to Mount Vernon where they decided to bear and raise their son Jarvis. Jarvis was her pride and joy and would later become her best friend in life. Jacqueline loved entertaining, crocheting, shopping, and fashion. She was a long time member of Greater Centennial AME Zion Church where she was a member of the Organ Committee and hosted their meetings.
Jacqueline will be remembered as a stylish and glamorous woman who was fiercely independent. She had a deep appreciation for Black excellence, the finer things in life, education, and spending time with family.
Jacqueline is survived by her son Jarvis, her grand-daughter Maya Grant-Richardson, and her niece Vanessa Kravitz and her family, husband Andy Kravitz along with their children Jeffery and Alana. Jacqueline will be missed by everyone who knew her.
A celebration of Jacqueline’s life will take place at the Pelham Funeral Home located at 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham New York on Monday January 16th from 4-8PM. A funeral service will take place at Greater Centennial AME Zion Church located at 312 South Eight Avenue, Mount Vernon New York on Tuesday January 17th at 9:30am.
