Ida Avalone (nee Formicola) of Eastchester passed away peacefully at home on October 9, 2016. Born in Mt Vernon on April 21, 1922, to the late Vincent and Theresa Formicola, Ida was one of six children. She was predeceased by her brothers, Jerry, Frank and Albert and sisters, Ann Vettorino and Margaret Longabucco.
A woman of strong faith and character, Ida was devoted to her family. She married her husband, Peter, in 1948. The young couple moved to Bronxville where they raised their two sons, Peter and Michael. Ida had a long career as a bookkeeper until her retirement at the age of 80. She was a faithful parishioner of St. Catharine Church for over 60 years. She was honored by Cardinal Dolan for over 50 years of devoted service to the Ladies of Charity organization. The family was a member of Leewood Golf Club for many years.
Ida is predeceased by her loving husband, Peter and son, Peter. She is survived by her son, Michael and daughter-in-law, Janice, of Southern California as well as daughter-in-law, Sloan, of Chicago, Illinois. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Wallis, Blake, Christina and Catherine, great grandchildren, Piper and Lily and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Ida's life will be held on Tuesday, October 11th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Pelham Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 12th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Catharine Church, 25 Second Avenue, Pelham with interment to follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Hastings, N.Y.
