Grace Scocozza, formerly a long time resident of Pelham, NY and Hallandale Beach, FL passed away peacefully on December 3, 2019. She was 99 years old.
Grace was born in the Bronx on March 1, 1920 to Cristina (Gregorio) and Peter Arcaro. She was raised there and at the family compound in Spring Valley, NY.
Grace graduated from James Monroe High School in the Bronx with honors in 1937. She worked for the State Insurance Fund in Manhattan for over 10 years until she met and married the love of her life, Peter C. Scocozza on December 29, 1951.
She settled into married life as a homemaker on Nyac Avenue in Pelham until Peter's untimely death in 1971. Then, at the urging of family, she embarked on a career with the Pelham Public School System from 1971 until her retirement in 1985. She is best remembered as the much loved attendance clerk in the Main Office of Pelham Memorial High School.
Grace loved Pelham and was very active in the community. She was a former board member of the Pelham Woman's Club as well as a compact member of the PMHS site based council. She served two terms as President of the Pelham Senior Citizens organization and was an active participant in political campaigns for local representatives.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandsons and her close knit family. Grace is survived by her devoted daughter, Vicki Scaglione (Joseph) and loving grandsons Scott and Gregory Scaglione of Pelham. She is also survived by her devoted sister, Nettie Rizzi and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters and brother: Virginia Solicito, Louise Massari, Rose Arcaro, and John Arcaro.
Visitation will be on Friday December 6th 2019 from 4:00 â 8:00pm.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Catharine's Church in Pelham on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. with burial to follow at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, N.Y.
