George Singleton Jr. was born on May 18, 1944 to the late George Singleton Sr. and Rosena Jones Singleton. George grew up in Brooklyn, NY. The eldest of 4 brothers and 4 sisters, 6 of whom preceded him in death. He attended NYC elementary and middle school, and went on to graduate from John Jay H.S.
Growing up, George was truly a big brother. Always looking out for his younger siblings. Sometimes acting like their father...lol. He was sometimes tough, but in a loving way. He and his younger brother Leon would earn money for the family by shining shoes in front of Brooklyn downtown Fox Theater, where some of their customers were entertainers from the Fox Theater, one being James Brown.
Later on, the family moved to the Bronx, where George, a hardworking, proud man, worked various jobs. He was a very hard and dedicated maintenance worker with NYCHA until his death.
George enjoyed reading books and doing whatever he could to help his family. He also liked watching old cowboy movies. George was so loved by his nieces and nephews and he cherished them dearly, as he never had biological children of his own. He later met Glendell Trotman and years later was joined together in matrimony. To know George, was to love him. He was the best husband, son, brother, uncle and friend.
October 2, 2016 another great paragraph in God's great book came to an end. George was called home. Where he will be greeted by his father, grandmother and siblings.
George leaves to cherish memory his wife Glendell, mother Rosena Singleton, sisters Frances Singleton Colvil and Darlene Singleton, aunts Dorothy Jones Shirley and Victoria Waite from Charleston, SC. a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, relatives, friends and his beloved dog, Penny. We love you, but God loved you best. You will be greatly missed and Forever in Our Hearts.
SCRIPTURE
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. I Thessalonians 4:16-17 KJV
I'M FREE
DON'T GRIEVE FOR ME, FOR NOW I'M FREE
I'M FOLLOWING THE PATH GOD HAS LAID
YOU SEE.
I TOOK HIS HAND WHEN I HEARD HIM CALL
I TURNED MY BACK AND LEFT IT ALL.
I COULD NOT STAY ANOTHER DAY
TO LAUGH, TO LOVE, TO WORK, TO PLAY.
TALKS LEFT UNDONE MUST STAY THAT WAY
I FOUND THAT PEACE AT THE CLOSE OF
DAY.
IF MY PARTING HAS LEFT A VOID
THEN FILL IT WITH REMEMBERED JOY.
A FRIENDSHIP SHARED, A LAUGH, A KISS
YES, THESE THINGS I TOO WILL MISS.
BE NOT BURDENED WITH TIMES OF SORROW
I WISH YOU THE SUNSHINE OF TOMORROW.
MY LIFE'S BEEN FULL, I SAVORED MUCH
GOOD FRIENDS, GOOD TIMES, A LOVED
ONE'S TOUCH.
PERHAPS MY TIME SEEMED ALL TOO BRIEF
DON'T LENGTHEN IT NOW WITH UNDUE
GRIEF.
LIFT UP YOUR HEARTS AND PEACE TO THEE
GOD WANTED ME NOW; HE SET ME FREE.
