Francis J. Dwyer of Pelham Manor, NY passed away on Tuesday, May 16th. He was 91 years of age.
Born in New York City, NY to Patrick and Ann Dwyer, Francis was one of five children. The family moved to Queens, NY and Francis commuted to St. Francis Xavier High School in Manhattan.
After graduation, Francis served in the United States Navy. Once his service to our country was complete, Frank returned to New York and attended Fordham University and the Georgetown School of Law. While studying law he met Jane Hammer, whom he would later marry. Together they built a life and raised six children.
Francis had a very successful business career, which began with Allstate Insurance. Being civic minded would lead Francis to governmental work until his retirement at age 82. He was passionate about being active in the community which led to his running for positions both locally and on a state level over the years.
Francis was a very active member of the Alumni Associations of both Xavier High School and Fordham University and a loyal member of the Manhattan Chapter of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. A man of constant faith, Francis was a loyal parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help â St. Catharine's Church of the Pelhams for many years.
Francis is survived by his beloved wife, Jane and his children: George, Catherine, Elizabeth, Christopher and Andrew. He is predeceased by his eldest son, Joseph.
He will be lovingly remembered by his five grandchildren.
A celebration of Francis's life will take place at the Pelham Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, NY, on Friday, May 19th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 575 Fowler Ave, Pelham Manor, NY, on Saturday, May 20th at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow the Mass at Holy Mount Cemetery, Eastchester NY.
