It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Evelyn Mable Turner, of Mount Vernon, New York, who peacefully departed this life on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at Calvary Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Evelyn was born on April 14, 1944, in Kingstree, South Carolina, to John and Rachel White, and was one of five children. She graduated from Tomlinson High School before moving to the Bronx, New York, with her family. Evelyn was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whose life was defined by her unwavering love for her family and her dedication to others.
A tireless and caring individual, Evelyn worked as a home health aide and seamstress for many years. She was known for her nurturing spirit and warm heart, always finding joy in caring for others. Her love for gardening, whether tending to her house plants or nurturing her outdoor garden plants, brought beauty and life to her home. She was also famous for her Grandma’s Green Punch and was beloved for her talent in the kitchen, especially during family gatherings where her cooking brought people together.
Evelyn’s love of life extended to her enjoyment of family cruises, where she found joy in the company of her loved ones, and she had a particular fondness for sunflowers and elephants, which symbolized her bright and compassionate nature.
Family was at the center of Evelyn’s world.
She is survived by her children, Stephanie, Linda, Bryant and Evelyn-Ann, as well as her cherished grandchildren: Kusan, Sanaii, Latrice, Lamont, Lakeria, Lanaiya, Unique, Christopher, Shawn, Keon, Michael, Tiffany, Terrell, Tiera, and Jade. Evelyn was also the proud great-grandmother of Lajon, Lacy, Corri, Kane, Charlotte, Chandler, Chase, Jaziah, Ocean, Jannah, Dakeria, Dacoreyon, Patrina, Tariyna, Damarion, Christara, each of whom brought her endless joy.
Evelyn is predeceased by her son, Dexter White, and her daughter, Vanessa, whose loss she carried with great love and strength throughout her life.
Her legacy of love, devotion, and selflessness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
A celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held on Monday November 25, 2024, between the hours of 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM, where family and friends will gather to honor and remember her remarkable journey at Pelham Funeral Home, located at 64 Lincoln Ave, Pelham, NY 10803.
