Dolores Gustafson Fagerstrom, a resident of Pelham since 1953, died peacefully on April 10th surrounded by her loving family.

Born February 19, 1923 in rural Hamlin County, SD, she was the daughter of Rudolf and Ruth Gustafson. Dolores spent the first ten years of her life on a farm in McCook County, near Unityville, SD. She then moved to Brookings, SD where she attended Brookings High School.

Dolores was graduated from South Dakota State University with a B.S. degree in home economics and from Andover Theological School, Newton Centre, MA with an M.R.E. degree. She was the Director of Christian Education at the First Baptist Church, Mount Vernon, NY where she met her future husband.

Dolores was married to Frederick W. Fagerstrom of Mount Vernon, NY on February 14, 1953 in Brookings, SD. Dolores and Fred spent forty-seven wonderful years together. He preceded her in death on March 11, 2000. Together they reared their six children, all of whom attended Prospect Hill School and were graduates of Pelham Memorial High School. Dolores was active in the Prospect Hill P.T.A., the Manor Club, the Bartow-Pell Conservancy, the P.E.O. Sisterhood, and Huguenot Memorial Church.

Her children and grandchildren gave her immense joy, and Dolores particularly loved providing a fun home for her family to gather. Surviving are her two sons, Frederick Fagerstrom (Catherine) of Arlington, VA and Bruce Fagerstrom (Debbie) of Darien, CT and four daughters, Karen F. Albright (Bradley) of Pelham, NY, Susan Fagerstrom (Douglas Johnston) of Winchester, MA, Donna Fagerstrom (Peter Kutil) of Pelham, NY and Betsy Brady (Grant) of Pelham, NY; twelve grandchildren: Annika Fagerstrom, Kara Fagerstrom, Kerstin Fagerstrom, Erik Fagerstrom, Carolyn Albright, Julia Johnston, Carter Brady, Mason Brady, Lance Brady, Leila Brady, Lindsey Fagerstrom, and Sydney Fagerstrom and one step-grandson, Christopher Kutil. Also surviving is a brother, E.M. Gustafson of Ontario, CA.

Visiting hours will be at The Pelham Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, NY from 4-8 pm on Thursday, April 13th. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 14th, at 11 am at Huguenot Memorial Church, Pelham. The family suggests that any memorial gifts be made to the Pelham Education Foundation or to the Friends of Pelham Public Library.
