Daniel Noel “Danny” McLaughlin of Yonkers, New York, formerly of Creeslough, Co. Donegal, Ireland, passed away on May 27th 2024, at the age of 71. Born in Creeslough to Michael and Catherine McLaughlin, Danny was the second of seven children. He grew up in Creeslough, attending St. Mary's Primary School and Holy Cross College. An avid sports enthusiast, Danny played Gaelic football for St. Michael's and boxed for various clubs before becoming the Ulster Boxing Champion in the early seventies.
Danny worked as a plasterer in Ireland before spending time in Scotland, and England. He immigrated to New York in 1983, where he continued his plastering career, ultimately retiring from the NYC Housing Authority in 2017. It was in New York that Danny met Isabel Arroyo, the love of his life. Their romance blossomed, and they shared many adventures, traveling to Florida, Connecticut, upstate New York, and his favorite destination, Atlantic City, where he enjoyed watching boxing. Danny was a fountain of knowledge about the sport and maintained a strong connection to Gaelic games and his community back in Creeslough.
Danny will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, loyalty, and honesty. He was a devoted family man and a beloved figure to all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Isabel, his daughter Mary Alvarez, his siblings; Charlie McLaughlin, Michael (Sheila) McLaughlin, Kathleen McLaughlin, Finola (Raj) McLaughlin Jethwa and Brendan (Theresa) McLaughlin as well as his sister in law Margaret McLaughlin. He will also be deeply missed by his Uncle Donald McLaughlin, Aunts Mary O'Keefe and Josie Gallagher, his nieces; Ashling, Nichola, Laoisha, Sharon, Caroline, Michelle, Jenny and Orla, his nephews; Emmet, Colm and Raymond as well as his godson Donal. Danny will be missed by everyone who knew him. He has a special place in his heart for Mary O Keefe who he called Rymomma, his close friends Eugene Collum
and Danny Brown. He is predeceased by his parents Michael and Kathleen, and his brother Raymond.
A Celebration of Dannys life will be held at the Pelham Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, New York, on Thursday May 30th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Barnabas Church, 409 East 241 St., Bronx, New York, on Friday May 31st, at 9:30AM. Following the services, Daniel’s remains will be repatriated to Ireland to be laid to rest with his family in Creeslough, Co. Donegal.
