Chantal Nicolas

Chantal Nicolas of Mount Vernon, New York, passed away on July 12, 2022. She was 64 years old. Born in Saint-Marc, Haiti, to Antoine Diogene and Rose-Laure Casseus. Chantal met her husband; Mathieu in Haiti and, she would later emigrate to the United States with Mathieu and her stepdaughter, Shirley. 

Chantal graduated with a master’s degree, and she pursued a career as an elementary school teacher in the Haiti School District for 35 years. She had a strong work ethic and loved her job. Chantel always made sure family came first and always enjoyed spending times surrounded by family and friends. She would often be found in the kitchen, perfecting traditional Haitian dishes.

Chantal will be remembered as a devoted wife, stepmother, grandmother, relative and wonderful friend, she was loving, caring, patient, and she laughed a lot. She will be dearly missed; however, her family finds comfort in the many treasured memories she leaves behind.

Chantal is survived by her husband, Mathieu, her stepdaughter, Shirley, her grandchildren, Alyssa and Sarah, her aunt, Alces, and many more relatives and friends.

A celebration of Chantal’s life will take place at the Pelham Funeral Home located at 64 Lincoln Ave., Pelham, NY, on Tuesday July 19, 2022, between the hours of 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM.
