Carol McGlone

October 8, 1939 — August 22, 2020

Carol Cacace McGlone of Mt. Vernon, NY, passed away peacefully at home on August 22, 2020. Formerly of New Rochelle and Mamaroneck, she was born on October 8, 1939, in Astoria, Queens, to Milada (Mildred) and Giouse (Jess) Cacace. She graduated from Bryant High School at the age of 16 before going to work. She met her would-be husband, William McGlone, at Shepherd's Farm and they married two years later, in 1959. They lived in Mamaroneck and had 3 children. Carol earned a B.A. in psychology and special education from Iona College in 1977, followed by a Masters degree from Columbia Teachers College. She enjoyed her work as a special education teacher in New York City for over 20 years.

Always active, Carol loved playing tennis, taking classes, and attending theatre. She loved the ocean and New York City. She was an active member of LIRIC (Learning in Retirement at Iona College), Sing Your Heart Out, Bronxville Seniors, and was on the welcoming committee at the Wartburg community, where she enjoyed living for the past 4 years. She enjoyed travelling with friends and family. One memorable trip was in 2015 to her grandfather's birthplace in Sciacca, Sicily, with all of her children and grandchildren.

Carol was gracious, warm, fun, loving, generous, joyful, and always saw the good in people. She will be remembered for her adventurous spirit and mischievous sense of humor. She was loved by a wide circle of friends and family and will always be in their hearts.

Carol is survived by her son, William (Lisa) McGlone, her daughter, Mary McGlone, and her daughter, Dolores M. (Greg) Berbaum. She will be missed by her 6 grandchildren, Allison, Clare, Andrew, Maria, William, and Peter. She is also survived by her sister Joyce Welt. We will all miss her dearly. She is pre-deceased by her ex-husband William D. McGlone, her sister Joan Cacace, and her brother James Cacace. A virtual Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2020, 10AM.
