Bertha M. Hill was called to be home with the Lord on March 28, 2018. Bertha was born in Warrenton, NC to the late William and Vivian Kearney.
She was the fourth child of seven siblings. Bertha was predeceased by her parents, William and Vivian Kearney; daughter, Barbara Flowers, grand daughter, Chanee Taylor; grandson, Kyle Hill; brother, Lawrence Kearney; sister, Mary (Sweetpea) Kearney. Bertha was baptized (in the river) at an early age at the Snow Hill Baptist Church in Warrenton, NC. She served as an usher and sang in the choir. She was educated in the Warren County Public School System. She graduated from John Roberts Hawkins High School in 1954.
After graduating high school, Bertha relocated to Mount Vernon, NY where she met and married Gene Hill, her husband of sixty-one years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. She retired from Travelers Insurance Co., Yonkers, NY., where she was a Supervisor. Bertha loved shopping, sewing and planting flowers.
Bertha leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Gene Hill; four daughters, Vernadine Hill, Donna Brown (Clinton), Lisa Hill, Lola Hill; six grandchildren, Lekia Hill, Gene Anais Hill, Bruce Flowers, Craig Deputy, Karla Bracey, Isaiah Williams; five great grandchildren, Jahzeel Hill, Jael Hill, Destiny Jones, Jahmeir Taylor, Chance Scales; two sisters, Emma Askew (Sherman), Lucille Mims; two brothers, Richard Kearney (Benzita), William Kearney (Katherine); Godson, Brian Mims; a special relationship with Kaya Henderson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Bertha will be greatly missed but the memory of her smile, her classy style and her care for others will live in our hearts forever.
