Barbara Bresnan, 93, of New Rochelle
Barbara Bresnan of New Rochelle died on Sunday, November 1. Barbara is survived by her 4 children, Patricia McCallion of Peekskill, NY, Mark (Susan) Bresnan of Nutley, NJ, Peter (Annette) Bresnan of Washington, D.C., and Joan (Dan) Popowics of Cincinnati, OH, and 8 loving grandchildren. Barbara was predeceased by her husband, John (Jack) Bresnan, her parents, Harold and Magdalen Mullaney, and her sister, Patricia Varga.
Barbara grew up in Manhattan and the Pelham Bay section of the Bronx. She graduated from Immaculata University.
She worked as a social worker in Philadelphia and as a Montessori teacher in Rye, New York. She raised her family in Levittown, Mount Kisco, and Pelham, New York, Patras, Greece and Jakarta, Indonesia.
Barbara also helped her husband Jack in his work representing the Ford Foundation in Indonesia from 1961-1965 and 1969-1973. They also lived in Patras, Greece, in the early 1950s, when Jack worked for the United States Information Service.
Barbara was a devout Roman Catholic. Her children said she could always find a Catholic church on a Sunday, whether she was in New Delhi, Karachi or Yangon. She served as a Eucharistic minister for many years at the chapel of the College of New Rochelle.
Barbara enjoyed traveling, playing bridge and playing and watching tennis. She served on the board of the Pelham Children's Center and was active in the Manor Club. She volunteered at Hope Community Services, Accent on Antiques, the Town of Pelham Public Library, and as a literacy volunteer.
