Barbara Grace Bartlett

September 5, 1946 — January 2, 2018

Barbara Grace Bartlett of Pelham, New York, passed away peacefully on the evening of Tuesday, January 2, 2018, in Bronxville, NY. She was 71 years old.

Born in Hartford Connecticut to Harry Amos Bartlett Jr. and Isabel Denerich Bartlett. Barbara was the eldest of four and raised in Pelham with her siblings, Harry III, Paul and June. Barbara attended Pelham public schools, where she made many lifelong friends. She enjoyed rallying the Pelham Memorial High School Class of '64 for class reunions.

At Briarcliff College, Barbara majored in cartography, graduating in 1966. She spent two years working in Boston and then moved to NY to work on the Master Plan at the Department of City Planning, where she spent the rest of her career. Barbara retired on December 1, 2017.

Civic minded, Barbara also was enthusiastic about her hometown of Pelham. As an avid volunteer, she was actively involved in the Junior League both in NYC and Pelham, initially volunteering for Mayor Lindsay, later serving as Treasurer and then President of the Pelham League. Barbara served on many boards as well, spending 30 years on the Town of Pelham Assessment Review Board, and 20 years on the Village of Pelham Architectural Review Board. She was Chairwoman of the Presentation Reception at the Bartow-Pell Conservancy, and is the sole recipient of Bartow-Pell's Zelia Hoffman Award for Outstanding Service. In 2017, Barbara was honored as a Pelham Woman of Distinction.

Barbara was passionate about design, architecture and history – this was evident in her contributions to the revitalization of downtown Pelham, as well as her involvement with the DAR, Mayflower Society and Colonial Dames.

A beloved sister, aunt, godmother and friend, Barbara leaves behind her brother Harry Amos III (Susan) and her sister June Fisher (Julian P. II); she was pre-deceased by her brother Paul John Bartlett. Barbara also is survived by her niece Abigail Grace Agathos (Christos), her nephew, Harry Amos IV (Stephania), a great niece and numerous great nephews.

A celebration of Barbara's life will start with a wake at the Pelham Funeral Home, located at 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, NY, on Wednesday, January 10th from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral mass will take place at St. Catherine's Church, 25 Second Avenue in Pelham, on Thursday, January 11th at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara's memory to the American Cancer Society, The Bartow-Pell Conservancy or the Pelham Preservation Society.
